Hearing loss is something that a lot of people experience in their lives, it is something that comes on so gradually you don’t even notice it at first. There are different things that can cause hearing loss, like a build-up of wax in the ears, an injury you may have experienced with your ear as well as one of the most common which is aging. If it comes on due to aging or a build-up of wax it can be gradual and you may not realize you have hearing loss at first.

Symptoms of Hearing Loss

Some of the symptoms you might find are that you are consistently misunderstanding what people are saying in particular if you are in noisier surroundings. You also may find you are asking oriole to repeat themselves while needing to concentrate to be able to hear what someone is saying. It can be very frustrating, so it is important to look after yourself and your hearing.

Preventing Hearing Loss

There are some things you can do which can help to prevent experiencing hearing loss. One of the important ones which a lot of people tend to not avoid is by avoiding inserting things into your ears. A lot of people will try to clean them and get rid of any wax but you should refrain from putting anything in your ears and especially children’s ears. This includes cotton swabs or wool, tissues and fingers.

If you visit a concert or somewhere there are loud levels of noise or perhaps you work in a noisy factory all day long it is important to have some form of ear protection, this would be in the form of earplugs. They are very inexpensive and you can buy them in bulk. You can also get customized ones that perfectly fit your ear shape and also will prevent ear infections which you can get from the standard ones as they can harbor bacteria.

Earplugs and ear defenders are the best hearing protection tools that you can use to help prevent hearing loss from occurring. Always keep some on hand and if you find yourself in noisy surroundings all you need to do is pop them in, they don’t completely cancel out the sound just dull it so you will still be able to listen to what is going on.

If you are listening to music or something like a podcast and it is noisy around you, instead of turning up the volume opt to use headphones instead. If you are worried about hearing loss you can have regular checkups with an audiologist, perhaps annually. This is a great preventative thing you can do especially if you are more at risk if you are a musician or work in a loud surrounding like a factory or construction area.

Hearing Screenings

By having screenings and hearing tests and audiologist will be able to pick up if there is any sign of hearing loss and can give you further advice on prevention and picking things up earlier is always beneficial in the long run.
