Top Styles of Hearing Aids to Consider

When experiencing hearing loss, you must make the most of any treatment that is available to you. This way, you can minimize any of the symptoms you experience, and begin to feel more like yourself again. The easiest way to achieve this goal is to consult with an audiologist, who can then offer you support and guidance moving forward. Typically, your audiologist may suggest that you begin using a hearing aid.

Since their invention in 1889, hearing aids have helped millions of users experience the world more clearly. They include a small microphone that receives sounds and turns them into a digital signal, which is then amplified through a small speaker into the ear of the user. With new advances in technology improving day by day, the number of people using hearing aids has gradually increased. Currently, around one-third of those who experience hearing loss use hearing aids.

There are three main styles of hearing aids which you might want to consider. This includes:

  • Behind the ear (BTE)
  • In the ear (ITE)
  • In the canal (ITC)

BTE Hearing Aids

BTE hearing aids are often the most popular hearing aid style and are placed directly behind the ear of the user. They are lightweight, durable, and have impressive battery life. They are made from a small plastic device that goes behind your ear and a soft tip/plastic tube that goes into the opening of your ear. They are available in a range of colors, though many users chose to select a BTE hearing aid that matches their skin tone so that it appears less noticeable.

ITE Hearing Aids

ITE hearing aids are often rather small when compared to BTE hearing aids - meaning they are rather discreet. Instead of being attached behind the ear, ITE hearing aids are placed (as the name would suggest) inside the ear of the user. They are available in a range of sizes and can be custom molded for the user to reduce the chances of them slipping or falling out. They are also considered to be more comfortable than other models, especially for users who may wear glasses. They are also perfect for users who are looking for a device that is easy to use and manage.

ITC Hearing Aids

ITC hearing aids sit directly in your ear canal, making them the most discrete option available. They typically fill around half of the user’s ear, and their placement in the ear canal means that they pick up minimal interference. Again, they can be custom-molded for the user and are available in a range of styles. If you feel as though you wish to try out hearing aids, consult with your audiologist to discover which model will work best for you.
